Honoring Service, Supporting Strength: Military Appreciation Month & Military Caregivers Month

Each May, we pause to recognize the extraordinary courage, sacrifice and resilience of our nation’s service members. At Hickory Trail Hospital and Branches Dallas, Military Appreciation Month and Military Caregivers Month offer a meaningful opportunity to honor not only those who have served, but also the loved ones who stand beside them every day.
The Invisible Weight of Service
Military service often requires strength beyond what most people ever see. For many service members and veterans, experiences before, during and after service can impact emotional well-being, relationships and daily life. Transitions back to civilian life, deployment stress, trauma exposure and the pressure to “stay strong” can make it difficult to ask for help—even when it’s deeply needed.
Seeking mental health support is not a sign of weakness. It is an act of courage and self-respect.
Honoring Military Caregivers
This month also shines a light on military caregivers — the spouses, parents, children and family members who provide ongoing emotional, physical and practical support to wounded, ill, or struggling service members and veterans. These caregivers often shoulder immense responsibility while managing their own stress, careers and families.
Military caregivers frequently put their own well-being last. We want to say clearly: your mental health matters too. Caregiving is demanding, and support can make a meaningful difference — not just for those you care for, but for you as well.
